On the afternoon of May 27, 2019, the delegation of trade and investment promotion of Can Tho city led by Mr. Pham Van Hieu, Standing Deputy Secretary of Party Committee, Chairman of Can Tho City People’s Council working with Malaysia International Trade and Communication Organization (BMI) in Malaysia. BMI is one of the leading business organizations in the field of business established in 1999. BMI is present in Southeast Asia with branches in Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Hong Kong; The areas of company are advertising, exhibitions, and conferences as well as business, commerce and media planning. One of BMI’s journals is SME magazine, which is the best-selling magazine with the highest number of readers as well as the number of print editions, 72% of readers are business owners and businessman.
Until the beginning of 2019, the city currently has 01 FDI project from Malaysia, with a total registered investment capital of 285,000 USD. Regarding import and export, total export turnover to Malaysia in 2018 reached 29.8 million USD, the main export items are rice, seafood, garments, pharmaceuticals, veterinary medicines, agricultural and processed agricultural products; the import turnover from Malaysia was 1.5 million USD, the main import items are pharmaceutical materials, agricultural medicine, veterinary medicine, sewing materials and other raw material supplies.
At the meeting, the delegation of Can Tho City exchanged 02 specific contents:
Firstly, Can Tho Promotion Agency discussed with BMI leaders about planning to welcome 30-50 delegations of Malaysia, Singapore Indonesia import and investment enterprises into Vietnam to seek investment opportunities and exchange in Can Tho city from August 4th to 7th, 2019. Activities include a survey of manufacturing enterprises as well as projects calling for investment in Can Tho City and organizing Trade Connection Conference on August 6th with the scale of 300 guests.
Foreign enterprises selected to participate in the program are invited from a group of businesses of more than 250 SME with valid business licenses for manufacturing, oil and gas, health, electronics, IT, industry, services,… with the fastest growth rates in Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore be selected in the SME100 program – This is an award for SME based on the criteria of quality and quantity of growth (sales, profits, and market share), resilience (high practicality, retention and vision).
Secondly, signing MOU between the International Trade and Communication Organization and Can Tho Promotion Agency.

Speaking at the meeting, the city leader strongly believed that the cooperation between Can Tho City and Malaysia would be better and more sustainable. Can Tho side will continue their efforts to improve the investment environment to create more favorable conditions for foreign businesses, including Malaysia and Singapore businesses to invest and do business in Can Tho.
